Gabo Island

Gabo Island, Victoria, Australia

Introduction of Gabo Island

Gabo Island (Gabo Island, is located in the Gypsland region of eastern Victoria near the junction of Victoria and New South Wales, about 500 meters from mainland, and the nearest town is the island of Mallacoota, which covers an area of about 154ha.

Gabo Island has a rich cultural history and is also a paradise for animals and plants. The island is famous for a lighthouse completed in 1862. The 49.6-meter-tall lighthouse, the second tallest lighthouse in Australia, is still in use. It is the only lighthouse in Victoria that is still in use. Some watchmen live in house by the lighthouse all the year round, and a house can be rented out for tourists to spend the night. Visitors can go up to the top of the lighthouse and have a good view of the magnificent scenery around them. If you are lucky enough, you may also find traces of whales, dolphins and seals. There is a fee for sightseeing. Please make a reservation at the Mallacoota office of the Victoria Garden Bureau before arriving on the island.
