According to the Australian newspaper, a new study by the Australian Institute of population Research (Australian Population Research Institute) shows that the government's visa reform is having an impact on skilled immigrants, and the number of skilled immigrants will decrease by more than 55,000 a year. About 1/4 of the total. But the move may ease traffic congestion and upward pressure on house prices.

Demographer Birrell (Bob Birrell) said that the number of permanent residence visas issued by employers in Australia would be reduced by at least 2/3, while the number of temporary work visas granted by employers would be halved. International students will find it increasingly difficult to obtain student visas to study in Australia.

The (The Coalition's 457 Visa Reset: Tougher Than You Think) report, the Soyuz rescheduling Visa: stricter than you think, says the government is undergoing radical changes in immigration policy in the past. In the past, many foreign technicians obtained permanent residence status through employer guarantees.

In May, the (Malcolm Turnbull) government announced an update to the list of employer-guaranteed occupations, reducing the number of jobs on the list from 651 to 435; raising the threshold for applicants to speak English; and replacing the previous 457 visa with a new temporary work visa.

In fiscal year 2016, the government issued 45400 temporary work visas and 48250 employer-guaranteed permanent residence visas.

Nearly half of all 457 visa applicants are domestic applicants, most of whom have come to Australia to study or work vacationers, the report said. With more than 200 jobs no longer eligible for employer guarantees, the number of employer-guaranteed permanent residence visas will be cut by 2/3. In addition, employers are not as interested as they used to be because they have to pay additional visa costs and training fees.

A (Business Council of Australia) spokesman for the Australian Chamber of Commerce said a reduction in the number of skilled immigrants would jeopardize economic growth.
