457 visa English exemption

Generally speaking, 457 visa applicants are required to meet the IELTS G average of 5 points, not less than 4.5 points per item, or other categories of language equivalent to that level, but in the following cases, Applicants may not be required to provide results in English:

  • Applicants holding passports from Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States are automatically exempted;
  • Five years or more full-time experience in English-speaking high schools or institutions of higher learning;
  • An annual salary of 96400 Australian dollars or more;
  • A position involving diplomatic or consular activities in another country, or a diplomatic or consular activity in the Taiwan authorities in Australia.

457 visa qualifications exemption

  • As for academic qualifications, ANZSCO describes each position in detail, but most of the nominated positions can be replaced by a certain number of years of work experience. If the applicant has relevant work experience and meets the prescribed number of years, it is still possible to apply for a 457 visa.

457 visa career assessment exemption

  • If the nominated occupation is a technician category, and that occupation is on the TRA-457SMP list, a TRA career assessment is required. If the nominating profession is Project and Program Administrator, or Specialist Manager not elsewhere classified, a VETASSESS job assessment is required; other occupations do not require an VETASSESS career assessment.
