Since Aug. 12, 2018, employers will be required to contribute to the Australian skills Fund (Skilling Australia Fund, (SAF) if they wish to nominate overseas technical personnel to Australia. The amount of SAF payment depends on the employee's visa category and the annual revenue of the guaranteed enterprise.

At present, an enterprise has nominated a skilled person to come to Australia on a 482 temporary skills shortage visa (Temporary Skills Shortage Visa) for the following fees:

  • Companies with annual revenue of less than A $10 million are required to pay a fee of A $1200 per year;
  • Companies with annual revenue of more than A $10 million will have to pay A $1800 a year in fees

The enterprise now nominates a skilled person to come to Australia with an employer-guaranteed permanent residence visa of 186 or a permanent residence visa of 187 from remote areas, to be paid:

  • Companies with annual revenue of less than A $10000000 are required to pay a fee of A $3000 per year;
  • Companies with annual revenues of less than A $10000000 are required to pay A $5000 a year.


How to pay

The SAF fee for the 186 and 187 visas is payable upon submission of the nomination application.

Employers who wish to bring in overseas labour through the 482 temporary skills shortage visa scheme will have to pay in advance for each year. For example, if your company wants to nominate an employee through the TSS visa program for a period of four years, you have to pay in advance for each of the four years when submitting your nomination application. For companies with revenues of less than 10 million, the fee is A $4800; companies with more than 10 million revenues pay A $7200 in one-time payments.


Labour market test

Since Aug. 12, 2018, the requirements for labour market testing of (Labour Market Testing) have also been adjusted. Employers are currently required to advertise for the job at least 28 days before submitting their nomination application.

In addition, if employers and overseas employees sign employment contracts before the labour market test is completed, visa applications will be rejected.
