On April 18, 2017, the Australian government is about to abolish its temporary work visa and replace it with a new temporary skills shortage (TSS) visa program, which consists of short-term visas of up to two years and medium-term visas of up to four years in March 2018.

With effect from 19 April 2017, the Migration Board has significantly reduced the list of occupations used for skilled immigration visas, including those in the 457 category. 457 occupations will be significantly reduced from 651, with the remaining 435 occupations, on the Combined list of MLTSSL and STSOL occupations. Fifty-nine occupations are marked with three stars, that is, there are additional restrictions on applicants or employers at the time of application.
