Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre

31-33 Lambert St, Ararat VIC 3377, Australia

Introduction of Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre

Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre is in Ararat., a small town in central Victoria.

Ararat was the first Chinese-founded city in Australia. More than a hundred years ago, 327 Chinese miners came across the ocean to earn a living for gold. In 1857, they discovered the famous "Guangdong vein" and opened up the Ararat gold deposit area. It also led to the establishment of the city of Ararat. Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre, located in Ararat, is a world-class Chinese cultural memorial, showcasing the painstaking journey of miners from southern China to Australia in search of gold. As a large-scale gold rush, many people migrate here with beautiful dreams. They began their gold-rush lives. The memorial has adopted the traditional architectural style of southern China, and combined with geomantic considerations, it has become an authentic Chinese architecture in line with the traditional Chinese aesthetic, and has also become the most distinctive building in the area. Many of the tools used to dig mines at the time, as well as the restoration of many daily lives, including textiles and handicrafts, are shown here to experience the different lives of Chinese pioneers living in other countries.
