Wonthaggi, once a famous coal mining town, State Coal Mine, which operated from 1909 to 1968, produced about 17 million tons of coal mines for Uygur industry and railways and opened to the public in 1997 as an entertainment and educational base. New facilities include the State Coal Mine Visitor Center (State Coal Mine Visitor Centre), Theatre, shops, museums, heritage walkways, historical buildings and barbecue areas.

Visitors to State Coal Mine, can learn about their work and life in coal mines, explore the dark network of underground tunnels, touch the surface of coal on the ground, and learn how hard-working miners collect the black gold.

  • Underground coal mine exploration: adults: 21.8 Australian dollars; children (5 ≤ 15): 11.2 Australian dollars; families (2 big and 2 small): 54.5 Australian dollars;
  • Open hours for underground coal mine exploration: 11.30-14 / 00, additional opening hours will be added to holidays.
