Introduction of Melbourne Zoo

The Melbourne Zoo is located in Parkville (Parkville), the northern suburb of Victoria's capital Melbourne, about 5 kilometers from downtown Melbourne and covers an area of about 22 hectares.

Founded in 1862, Melbourne Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Australian history.

Melbourne Zoo is recognized as one of the world's best zoos, and is popular with visitors for its ingenious garden design. It houses about 320 species of animals from around the world, including koalas, kangaroos, platypus, penguins, seals, hippos and so on. The animals make up 15% of the total number of Australian animals. The most striking is the world's first gorilla to use artificial insemination. The zoo is also very green and environment, the garden planted more than 20,000 species of plants, exotic flowers, colorful, a variety of birds including peacocks on the lawn free to walk. Here animals and nature, animals and people, people and natural relationship are handled very well, many animals and people can communicate and contact directly.

Melbourne Zoo offers free guided tours, all of which are volunteers and are specially trained to answer the audience's questions.

How to reach:

  • Self driving: according to the navigation can be driven, the park has a fee parking;
  • Tram: Take tram 58 to Melbourne Zoo/ Royal Park Station (Melbourne Zoo/Royal Park Station);
  • train : take the Upfield line from Flinders Street Station (Flinders Street Railway Station) to Royal Park Station (Royal Park Station);


Ticket price:

  • Adult :$38
  • Children (4-15 years old): Free weekends and holidays, usually $19
  • Infants (under 4 years of age): free
