Introduction of Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum is located in Victoria's capital, Melbourne, is the largest museum in the Southern Hemisphere.

Melbourne Museum, which was officially opened to the public in November 2000, is located on the edge of MelbourneCDB, formerly the parking lot of (Royal Exhibition Building), the Royal Exhibition Hall. Co-located with the Royal Pavilion, Carlton Garden (Carlton Gardens), which is assessed by UNESCO as the World Cultural Heritage list.

With 17 million exhibits, Melbourne Museum showcases the history of Australian society, Aboriginal culture and scientific development, which are divided into three main functions:

MelbourneIMAX Cinema: with an eight-story screen, it is the largest IMax cinema in the world, from documentaries to the latest movies, all of which can be shown in 2D or 3D.

Benjiraka (Bunjilaka) Aboriginal Cultural Centre: knowledge of Curie Culture in Victoria (Native Peoples of Koorie, South East), including works of art, cultural relics, stories and performances;

Permanent exhibitions and features:

  • In Melbourne's story (Melbourne Story) exhibition, track back Melbourne's long history and culture are immersed in thought-provoking stories, exploring the symbols and characteristics of Melbourne from the early 19th century.
  • Visit the lifelike Phil Leigh (Phar Lap), Australia's most legendary horse race;
  • Walking through the bones of amazing animals in ancient times to visit dinosaurs, flying reptiles and megafauna;
  • Watch live crayfish, bamboos, red-backed spiders and funnel web spiders from close range;
  • Stroll through the living forest in the forest gallery (Forest Gallery) and enjoy the wild animals that live in it;
  • Take part in a brain-deep journey in the (The Mind) exhibition to explore human emotions, thoughts, memories, and dreams;
  • Children from 1 to 8 years of age can visit children's galleries (Children's Gallery), has educational implications at the same time as fun;
  • At the Discovery Center (Discovery Centre) studies Victoria's life in person based on Victoria's research and collection in the museum;
  • Visit the museum store (Museum Shops), where you can buy a unique collection of books, toys, games and locally produced handicrafts.
  • Have a cup of coffee at the Museum Caf é (Museum Cafe), enjoy a good meal and relax.

Ticket price:

  • Museum tickets: $15 for adults, free of charge for children and students under 16 years of age;
  • Museum tickets and IMAX movie passes: $25 for adults and $14 for children under 16.
