Portland Maritime Discovery Centre and Portland Visitor Information Center (Portland Visitor Information Centre), founded in 1998, records the rich marine history of the Portland area, including whaling, shipsinking, surfing, rescue, navigation and local fisheries. Portland Maritime Discovery Centre has a huge rag whale (Sperm Whale) skeleton specimen, which is the treasure of the town hall of the Exploration Center.
