Fort Nepean is a military fortress that was an important part of Australia's defense system from the 1880s to 1945. Located at the southwestern end of the Monington Peninsula, the Fortress is located at the southwestern end of the Monington Peninsula, across the Bay of Victory (Victory Bight) from the (Bellarine Peninsula) of Bellingla Peninsula, less than 4 kilometers away from each other, guarding the maritime throat portal into Melbourne.
