Castlemaine Art Museum is located in Castlemaine., a small town of (goldfields region), an inland gold mine in central Victoria.
Castlemaine Art Museum was founded in 1913. Known for its collection of Australian art and its unique historical portfolio associated with (Mount Alexander), the Victorian gold mine, Castlemaine Art Museum's operation has been strongly supported by a number of artists and art patrons. Collaborations with famous figures such as Nellie Merbah's Lady (Dame Nellie Melba) have enriched the museum's collection.
The Castlemaine Art Museum collection also includes the largest number of original works of art and photography from the surrounding areas of Castlemaine, which fulfill the aims of galleries and museums for the collection, preservation and cultural exchange of relevant local historical data. There are many fine decorative works of art on display in the permanent exhibition area, including porcelain, glassware and silverware.
