Sacred Heart Cathedral

MacKenzie St, Bendigo VIC 3550, Australia

Introduction of Sacred Heart Cathedral

Sacred Heart Cathedral (Sacred Heart Cathedral) is located in Bendigo, Victoria's fourth-largest city.

Sacred Heart Cathedral is one of Bendigo's landmark buildings, a Gothic renaissance sandstone building that was built between 1896 and 1908 and two clock towers in 1954 and 1977.

Sacred Heart Cathedral, 75 metres in length, 87 metres in height and 24 metres in the dome of the main temple, is Australia's third-largest cathedral, second only to Melbourne's Monsignor of St. Bartley (St Patrick's Cathedral).) in height.

Sacred Heart Cathedral is the Bishop's Cathedral of the Catholic Parish of Sandhurst, (Sandhurst), with a permanent population of less than one hundred thousand, and it is rare to have such a cathedral in such a small city. The rise of the cathedral is due to a priest from Germany, George Henry Backhaus (George Henry Backhaus), who came here with a large number of gold miners shortly after the start of the gold rush in Bendigo and became their spiritual guide. After staying here for 11 years, he left and returned to Bendigo, after years of ill health and eventually slept here, and most of his legacy was left to the Catholic Church here. This makes it possible to build such a large-scale church.
