The Hanging Rock is located in the Central Macedon range of Victoria, about 5 km from the town Woodend, about 20 km from Gisborne (Gisborne), the largest town in Macedon range, and about 70 km from the Victorian capital.

The Suspended Stone Discovery Center (Hanging Rock Discovery Centre) at the foot of the mountain is the entrance to the Hanging Rock, providing coffee and simple food from which it can reach the top in about 30 minutes.
