West MacDonnell National Park

West MacDonnell National Park, Alice Springs NT 0870, Australia

Introduction of West MacDonnell National Park

West MacDonnell National Park is located in the central part of the Northern Territory west of the small inland town of Alice Springs, covering an area of 2568.61 square kilometers.

Visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery and local history as they explore and stroll, swim in pools or set up tents in national parks for long periods of time, and swim in the cold water of ponds all year round in the park. The larger pools include the Elary Creek Grand Pond (Ellery Creek Big Hole), Omison Canyon (Ormiston Gorge), Redbank Canyon (Redbank Gorge) and Glen Helen Canyon (Glen Helen Gorge) and so on. The National Park offers many footpaths marked as leisure and adventure, providing long-term and night-time jungle walks through the park and the 223km Lalapinta track (Larapinta Trail) for healthy, experienced and well-prepared pedestrians.

West MacDonnell National Park includes ancient sculptures of ancient landscapes and shelters for many rare and endangered plants and wildlife, including rare birds such as the peregrine falcon (Peregrine Falcon).
