Old Government House

Queens Jubilee Dr, Belair SA 5052, Australia

Introduction of Old Government House

Old Government House is located in Adelaide, South Australia's capital, at (Belair National Park), about 10 kilometers from the city of Adelaide.

Old Government House is a historic building that used to be the summer home of the first official deputy governor of South Australia (1860 / 1880), where some of South Australia's early governors, such as McDonnell (MacDonnell) and Daley (Daly), later lived.

Old Government House is open to the public as part of Belle National Park, where people can learn about the lives of the wealthy Victorians, and the main house shows the lifestyle and clothing of well-off families. The servant room showed a more simple style of home fitting for workers' families. With an elegant terrace and South Australia's first indoor waterfall pool, it is an excellent example of Victorian architecture. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the one-acre garden where villa plants and flowers are grown in Victorian ways, as well as traditional roses and timber trees.

The building opens on Sundays and public holidays from 1: 00 p.m. to 4: 00 p.m., and guides from (Friends of Old Government House), the friend of Old Government House, will take visitors on a tour to share the story of the grand post-settlement. If you need to visit on weekdays, or receive special groups, please make an appointment.
