Martindale Hall

1 Min Man Rd, Mintaro SA 5415, Australia

Introduction of Martindale Hall

Martindale Hall is located in South Australia's important wine-producing region, Clare Valley (Clare Valley), about 20 kilometers from the small town of Clare, and about 120 kilometers from Adelaide, the capital of South Australia.

Founded in 1877 and completed in 1880, Martindale Hall was inscribed on the South Australian Historic Heritage list in 1980 and is known in the famous Australian film "Picnic at Hanging Rock for picnics under hanging Rock" as a scenic spot for the girls' boarding school: Appleyard College in the film.

Martindale Hall is a Georgia-style mansion built by Edmund Bowman (Edmund Bowman), a wealthy British businessman who lived there until 1891. The embossed stone building, built mainly of Manula (Manoora), is beautifully decorated, with a magnificent main hall and front hall decorated with Italian Renaissance interior, with a semicircular glass roof and a patchwork floor. It also offers an amazing T-shaped staircase to the hanging Art Gallery.

In 1986, Martindale Hall and its 17-hectare site were handed over to government, South Australia, and were opened to the public after renovation, providing accommodation, wedding banquets and meetings, as well as access for ordinary visitors.
