Mutitjulu Waterhole

Unnamed Road, Petermann NT 0872, Australia

Introduction of Mutitjulu Waterhole

Mutitjulu Waterhole is about 20km from Yulara, the main resort and hub of Uuru, at the foot of the Uluru boulder, known as the "red heart of Australia."

Starting from Kuniya Car Park, walk about 500 meters along the Kuniya Walk to the front of Mutitjulu Waterhole, the most important source of water for the Toad Anangu, also known as the Anan Ancients, who guard Urulu, where visitors can enjoy the rock paintings of the aborigines, during the rainy season, where the waterfalls are spectacular and the birds and Australia soar in the heat during the warmer seasons; for bird watchers, this is a good place to observe the black hawk tea and the bald mouth.

The Anangs are used to nomadic hunting, forming stories and legends around Urulu and Katachuta. Snakes are very important animals in the eyes of the aborigines, and their ancient legends are mostly related to snakes. Many legends cannot be separated from two large snakes: Kuniya and Liru, and Cunha is their god. It is said that Kuya and Lilu lived on the two sides of the Uluru stone, one day Lilu messed around, took and wounded Kuya's nephew, Kuya was furious after hearing the news, she ran to Lilu, the two sides of the fight, finally Kuya uniform Lilu, and split him into two halves, on the two sides of the Uluru large stone, there are frequent signs of Kuya and cut into two halves of Lilu. This mythological story is said to be based on the east, south and west sides of the Ururu rock, especially on an apparent "scar" on the stone wall of the Ururu rock: in the legend of the Anangs, it was left behind by the Kuniya War Lilu. At the time, Cunha was a snake, and after the victory over Lilu, it incarnated as the water god guarding Urulu and the natives who lived there. Now, when the drought is low, the aborigines will climb to the top of the uru to worship the god of water and pray for it to bring rain to the land, while mutitjulu Waterhole, even Cunha, has always sheltered the evidence of the Anangs because it has never dried up, even in the most arid years.
