Black Hill Reserve is located in the eastern suburb of Ballarat, the third largest city in Victoria, next to the city of Ballarat.
Black Hill Reserve covers an area of about 21 hectares, the highest elevation of 495 meters, is the highest point in the urban area of Ballarat, the Montenegro viewing platform (Black Hill Lookout) on top of the mountain can provide the best panoramic view of the city.
Montenegro was a gold and quartz mine area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where vegetation and trees were felled, and in 1918, when minerals were exhausted, the local government established a protected area and began planting trees again. So far, the natural environment has been completely restored, and it is also a vivid demonstration of how to make rational use of the earth's resources.
