Located in Ballarat, Victoria's third-largest city, within (Ballarat Botanical Gardens), Ballarat Botanical Garden, on the west bank of (Lake Wendouree), Lake Windsor, Ballarat Tramway Museum is a museum run by Ballarat Tramways, with members from volunteers from all walks of life. They use their private time to run and maintain these ancient trams.
Unlike the quiet museum collections around the world, the collection in, Ballarat Tramway Museum is not static, but an antique tram that is still operational and allows visitors to experience it. Even a whole car is allowed to have a party.
Until 1971, trams were the main way for Ballarat people to travel. Today, although transportation is well developed, people still miss this ancient mode of transportation. If there were no Ballarat Tramway Museum, trams, they would have disappeared from Ballarat's streets. Take an old-fashioned tram run by the Ballarat Museum and experience part of the history of Ballarat's residence, which covers 1.3km of original lines and passes through the beautiful botanical gardens west of Lake Windrell, which takes about 20 minutes.
The museum at the tram station displays photos and tram memorabilia for visitors. Tram fleets and work areas are also available to visit. The tram collection includes the Ballarat1 Horse, three Victoria Electric Tram bodies, twelve trams originally used in Melbourne in 1913 and 1951, and three trams shipped directly from Melbourne to the Museum in 1975.
