Streaky Bay

Introduction of Streaky Bay

Streaky Bay is a small town on the west coast of (Eyre Peninsula) Peninsula, south of South Australia, about 698km by car from Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, and 293km from (Port Lincoln), Port Lincoln, with a permanent population of about 1600. In 1970, The film "Bluefin" was shot here, and the town was much better known. Streaky Bay's name came from the seaweed Flinders saw in the bay, which is still visible in the low tide. Seagrass attracts marine life, and big fish eat small fish, making it a first-class fishing site. In addition, it has excellent cliffs near the coast.


Additional attraction points:

  • The Murphy Hay pile (Murphy's Haystacks), about 40 kilometers south from Streaky Bay along the Flinders Hwy (B100, is colored, weathered by millions of years of wind and rain, and stands alone in the wilderness;
  • From the Murphy Hay pile, turn left along Calca Rd, to Point Labatt Rd, about 38 kilometers by car to (Point Labatt), Cape Rabat, one of the few sea lions permanent residence on the Australian mainland. They can be observed at the top of the cliff and remember to bring telescopes;
  • "Shark Warrior" cruise ships, visitors can enjoy the sea floor in a special underwater glass cabin 360 degrees, and may also face-to-face with those 4, 5 meters long sharks, oh, Streaky Bay and Port Lincoln have a company to provide this service.
