According to SBS and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, despite recent talk and political talk about the population surge, the quota ceiling for Australia's immigration plan has not been lowered.
The Department of Home Affairs (Department of Home Affairs) confirmed that the quota ceiling for the 2018-19 permanent migration plan would remain unchanged at 190000.
A spokesman for the Home Office said: "Australia's annual plan to receive migrants is made through the Australian goverment budget process. In 2017-18, the quota ceiling for the immigration plan was set at 190000, and the number of migrants in 2018-19 remained unchanged."
Prime Minister Tam Po (Malcolm Turnbull) said the program has always been in the national interest and that people can no longer be signed "hamburger (flip burgers, means low-paid jobs that do not require specialized skills".
Mr Tan told 2GB Radio that goverment was concerned "not with the number of immigrants but with the quality" and that "We will not bring a person we do not want or need to come to Australia."
In February, former Prime Minister Albert (Tony Abbott) called for a big cut in immigration intake, sparking heated public debate about immigration quotas.
Professor (Peter McDonald) MacDonald, a demographer and immigration expert at the University of Melbourne, conducted a model study of how many immigrants should be introduced in Australia, concluding that the 16-220000 range was the most appropriate. The one hundred and ninety thousand quota adopted by Australia's goverment over the years lies in the middle of this range.
