Located in the heart of the port city of Albany on the southern coast of Western Australia, Museum of the Great Southern is located in historic buildings and green gardens, overlooking the picturesque (Princess Royal Harbour, of the Royal Princess Port, or Mimonkut, which is nicknamed by the Native Minan people of the Greater South. The exhibits in Museum of the Great Southern tell the historical stories of the Minans and their relationships with the land, plants and animals of the region, and visitors can learn about the way people live on the lighthouse in Western Australia through the museum. Watch the precision optical instruments built on (Eclipse Island), Iclees, or explore the story of Chinese and Italian immigrants in the region. In addition, the museum has a large collection of fossil specimens of local organisms, including some extinct creatures.
