Coolgardie Cemetery

LOT 40 Lindsay St, Coolgardie WA 6429, Australia

Introduction of Coolgardie Cemetery

Coolgardie Cemetery is located on the western outskirts of Kurgadi (Coolgardie), an inland town in central Western Australia, about 40 kilometers from Kalgoorlie, a gold mine town in Western Australia.

Commissioned in 1894, Coolgardie Cemetery has more than 3000 tombs, more than 1/4 of which are buried by children under the age of five, where they can appreciate the life and difficulties encountered during the gold rush. At the beginning of the gold rush, terrible infectious diseases ravaged the town, leaving a large number of tombs without inscriptions, a large number of miners moving to eastern mining areas, and many of the victims undocumented.

Most of Kurgadi's fascinating history is reflected in these weathered tombstones. Visit Elizabeth Gold (Elizabeth Gold), the legendary ghost of Kurgadi. She is buried not far from the place where her murder people sleep. The graves of several Afghan camels are also worth seeing behind the graveyard.
