Big Merino, an inland town on the southern highlands of New South Wales (Southern Tablelands) Goulburn, is built of concrete ,15.2 meters high ,18 meters wide and weighs 97 tons. It is the world's largest sheep sculpture and symbol of Goulburn.
Mino (Merino) is a fine wool sheep of high quality. Goulburn is famous for producing Mino, and Big Merino is built for it. Inside the 1985 giant Big Merino, there is a small museum on the history of Australian wool, a gift shop on the first floor, a wool display on the second floor, and visitors can climb to the head of the Big Merino to view the scenery through its eyes. The current Big Merino is located near the service station near the Hume Highway (Hume Hwy) to increase the number of visitors.
