Windjana Gorge National Park, in northern Western Australia, is about 2650km from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, about 370km from the famed resort Broome and 155km from Derby, the nearest town, with an entire national park covering about 20.5 sq km.
Windjana Gorge National Park is stunning, rated as one of the most beautiful canyons in the border region, with plenty of vegetation and wildlife. The Vencana Canyon stands 100 metres above the Leonard River floodplain. You can jump into the cool permanent pool to enjoy the great power of nature after millions of years of carving out the valley. Winding through the canyon along a 3.5-kilometer walking trail, you'll see fossils of primitive life on the canyon's rock walls, as well as a variety of birds, fruit bats and freshwater crocodiles. The mild weather between May and September is the best season for sightseeing.
