Umpherston Sinkhole, also known as the Sag Garden (The Sunken Garden), was once a cave made of limestone dissolution and weathering. The top of the cave eventually collapsed as a result of weathered erosion, making it a depression that is now seen. Now, the soil at the top of the cave falls below, providing an excellent natural environment for the sunken garden.
James Amber Don (James Umpherston) first beautified it in 1884, and Umpherston Sinkhole has been open to the outside world since then, especially from dusk to night, as possum risks looking for food in this bright garden.
