Built in 1987, Roxby Downs is a young town built jointly by the Australian government and WMC Mining (now BHP Billiton). The purpose of the establishment is to provide services for the Olympic Dam Mine (Olympic Dam mine) and its smelter, about 15 km north of Zhenbei. It is a newly built town with high standards of buildings and facilities and is considered Australia's "most modern inland city".
