Latrobe

Introduction of Latrobe

Latrobe is a small town in northern Tasmania, about 15 kilometers from (Devonport), the third largest city in Tasmania.

The history of Latrobe can be track back until the 1820s, when the town was once the main port in the northwest of the island, and more than 70 historic buildings in the town highlight the rich heritage of the area.

Latrobe is known as the platypus town, which is located on the banks of (Mersey River) on the Mersi River. There are a lot of precious wild platypus living in the waters near here. Statues of platypus can be found everywhere in small towns, and the large platypus statue (The Big Platypus), which is about 3 meters long in front of the Australian axe Hall of Fame (Australian Axemans Hall of Fame), is one of the three largest platypus statues in Australia.
