Bicheno

Introduction of Bicheno

Bicheno is a small town on Tasmania's eastern coast, about 180km southwest of Tasmania's capital, Horbart, and 160km northwest of Tasmania's second largest city, Launceston, with a permanent population of about 800.

Bicheno set up its whaling centre in 1803, so it was once called the Waubs Boat Harbour, and in 1854, James Ebenezer Bicheno discovered a coal mine on the nearby Denison River, which allowed the town to change its name to Bicheno.

Bicheno is picturesque, rich in tourism and one of the more well-known towns on Tasmania, where the town's most proud highlights are the Little Penguin Homecoming and the Bicheno Water Spray Hole, while Bicheno is also a well-known seafood producer, where food lovers can take a bite out of it.
