In Australia, only 7 percent of native-born people live in apartments, compared with 31 percent in North Asia, including China.

Asian immigrants can`t escape racial discrimination

Although Australian policy has shifted from "White Australia" to multiculturalism, racism is still popular in Australian cities, and some even use "white victims" as evidence of discrimination against non-whites.

A recent study showed that Asian Australians suffer as much as twice as many racism and discrimination as other Australians, especially as many as 58 percent of Asian-born respondents experience some degree of discrimination when renting or buying a house.

Apartment building has become one of the "main battlefield" of cultural collision. The management of public areas in the building, drying clothes on the balcony or cooking fumes, often leads to contradictions. As a result, the property management or owners` committee has become a mediation agency for multicultural relationship in Australian cities.

In addition, in urban areas where Chinese-born immigrants are increasingly living, cross-cultural tensions are often reflected in local urban planning. In some areas, for example, white residents accuse Chinese investors of causing housing intensity and losing their "neighborhood relationship identity."

At the same time, shared benefits in apartments, similar to neighborhood relationship and social class, help bridge ethnic and racial differences.

Foreign investment is not the main cause of house price rise

Chinese capital in Australian housing and commercial real estate soared from A $2.4 billion in 2009-10 to A $24.3 billion in fiscal year 2014 / 15. China is one of the largest sources of foreign capital in the real estate industry.

Although most of these investments have entered the new housing sector, public concerns about the impact of foreign capital on Australian housing affordability have continued unabated.

However, it was estimated that if foreign investment remained stable between 2004 and 14, prices in Sydney and Melbourne could rise by about 50%, not as much as 67%.

Australian cities in the Asian Century face major challenges in housing, transportation, employment and food security.

Racist comments such as the "Asian invasion" accuse Chinese immigrants and investors of causing problems that, in the final analysis, are due to Australia`s own urban history and urban planning driven by the market.
