What if you lose your passport while traveling in Australia?

The passport of the people's Republic of China is a document issued to China citizen by the government of the people's Republic of China to prove its nationality and identity when entering and leaving the country and travelling abroad. The licensee shall be properly preserved and used. The staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney said recently that they often received help from passport victims, saying that they would leave for home on the same day or the next day, and asked the Consulate General to issue their passports urgently. Some even call late at night, anxious mood can be imagined. So, once the passport is lost, how to deal with it?

First of all, please log on to the "lost Certificate requisition" section of the Consulate-General's website, in which the Consulate General will update the information received on the lost passport in a timely manner. If your passport is picked up and returned to the Consulate-General, you may claim to continue using it.

If you do not find your passport on the Consulate-General's website, you should immediately report to the nearby police station by calling the non-Emergency Police Assistance Hotline (POLICE ASSISTANCE LINE FOR NON EMERGENCIES) 131 / 444 and recording the call number (EVENT NO).

Then, as soon as possible to the Consulate General to apply for the formalities. Please note that the person concerned is required to come to the museum in person for the replacement of the passport, and at the same time:

  • Provide a completed Application form for Passport Travel Certificate of the people's Republic of China (can be downloaded on the Consulate-General's website, can also be completed on-site upon arrival).
  • Three passport photos available.
  • Explain your license, including number, validity period, issuing place, etc. It is best to provide a copy of the original passport.
  • Description of your visa situation in Australia, generally need to go to the Australian Immigration Office to issue visa information materials, regardless of form, as long as it includes the name of the visa holder, passport number, visa type, issuance date, validity and so on.

The Consulate General understands the mood of the lost passport and will deal with it in the first place. However, according to the working procedure, no matter how urgent the situation is, the passport must be verified by the original license-issuing organ (mostly the public security organs of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government). The consulate does not grasp or determine the specific time required for the verification procedures of the licensing organs, and therefore cannot promise the parties a specific time for obtaining evidence, the consulate may not grasp or determine the specific time required for the verification procedures of the licensing organs.

The vast number of Chinese compatriots should take good care of passports, do not lose them, and do not use passports as collateral items, so as not to be falsely used by others. If you find your passport missing, you should report it and apply for a replacement. If you have purchased a travel ticket or a shipping ticket, please extend the travel period as appropriate.
