Laurel Bank Park

Hill St, Toowoomba City QLD 4350, Australia

Introduction of Laurel Bank Park

Laurel Bank Park, located in Toowoomba, a small town in the inland mountains of southeastern Queensland, is a city park covering about 4.5 hectares with neatly built gardens, playgrounds, picnic areas and croquet green spaces.

Laurel Bank Park collects a wide range of exotic trees, including British and Spanish oak, ginkgo and Japanese maple trees. The park is home to tranquil aromatic gardens. This unique garden was created by (Toowoomba City Council) of the Tuwobo Municipal Council and (Rotary Club of Toowoomba East), a rotary community in eastern Tuwobo. His design ideas came from the (Downs Association of the Blind), Garden of the Downs Blind Society, which covers an area of nearly 0.5 hectares.

Fragrant flowers, vanilla and shrubs are cultivated in the flower bed. Tourists can smell the elegant fragrance as they pass by, and you can also sit down and enjoy the fragrance. There are also playground facilities and an overlooking platform in the park.

The well-known, Laurel Bank Park was owned by Samuel George Stephens before 1932. In 1932, Mr. Stephens donated the land to the people of Tuwobo, who became the official trustee of the park.

The park was designed by Mr. Stephens himself before the donation. Many people know Mr. Stephens and call him "Flower Man," because he loves flowers very much and requires that the land cannot be used as a sports ground and that croquet green next to (Herries Street) on Heres Street can be used. The green sports ground was opened to the public in 1935. The Yangui River Bank Hall (The Laurel Bank Hall) was built during World War II when he was used as a restaurant for the United States Marine Corps.
