Breakaways

Stuart Hwy, Coober Pedy SA 5723, Australia

Introduction of Breakaways

Breakaways (Breakaways, is located in the southern Australian inland desert area, north of Coober Pedy, a small town known as "underground city", about 30 kilometers by car from Coober Pedy.

Breakaways means "disengage," Breakaways is a huge red sand rock falling from Stewart range (Stuart Range), forming a huge canyon cliff, facing the moon plain (Moon Plain), looks boundless. The protruding rock contrasts with the boundless desolate desert landscape, with a sense of being on Mars. Because of its unique terrain, many Australian films have taken the scene here.

Breakaways is a very large area, from Coober Pedy to the north follow the Sturat Hwy about 20 kilometers, see the sign, turn right, and then drive about 10 kilometers of dirt road (Unsealed Road) can be reached. There are two landscape platforms, and one of the longest fences in the world, called "Dog Fence," was built to protect herders' cattle and sheep from the wild Australian wild dog (Dingoes). Once 5614 kilometers long, the longest building in the world straddles South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. With most of the Australian wild dogs extinct, the fence is useless and now only a part of it remains.
