Wilsons Promontory Lightstation

Wilsons Promontory, VIC 3960, Australia

Introduction of Wilsons Promontory Lightstation

Wilsons Promontory Lightstation is located at the southernmost tip of Victoria's Cape Wilson National Park, (Wilsons Promontory National Park).

Wilsons Promontory Lightstation stands on the cliffs by the sea, against the long blue coastline, especially beautiful. The lighthouse faces the vast Bath Channel (Bass Strait), the southernmost tip of the entire Australian continent, with the exception of Tasmania, about 250km south to the tower island land. Wilsons Promontory Lightstation lighthouse, 19 meters high, was built in 1859. It has been standing for more than a century and a half and is still in operation, piloting ships to and from Tata Island and the Australian mainland, only since 1993, when it was changed to unattended autopilot.
