York

Introduction of York

York is a small town in (Avon Valley), Western Australia, about 100km from Perth, the capital of Western Australia.

York is an ancient town with a long history. It was the earliest inland town in Western Australia. It has been settled by European colonists since 1831. It was officially built in 1835 and still has many historical heritage buildings. The entire site of the town of York is now listed and protected in Australia's Federal National Heritage Register.

With its typical inland town landscape surrounded by rolling countryside and pastures, York retains the charm of cultural sites and is one of the most popular rural resorts around Perth. The town has carefully restored a large number of buildings and churches built in Victorian and federal times, of which the Victorian-style York City Hall (York Town Hall) is the most distinctive architectural symbol of York.
