Mount Isa

Introduction of Mount Isa

Mount Isa is a small town in the west of Queensland, about 1820 kilometers by car from Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, close to the border of the Northern Territory, and about 1600 kilometers from Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory.

Mount Isa, an industrial city born out of mining, was discovered to be rich in mineral deposits around the world since the early 20th century, and miners from around the world have slowly begun to live and settle there. Mount (Mount Isa) is one of the highest-yield single mines in the world. The mineral resources are mainly precious metals such as lead, silver, copper, zinc and so on. The city of Mount Isa is named after this mountain.

Mount Isa is located in Australia's arid, remote hinterland, but the town is not short of water because of the crossing of the (Leichhardt River) River. The local government supplies drinking water to the city at Lake Modena (Lake Moondarra), which was excavated 19 kilometers north of the city. It is also a good place for local residents to do water sports and bird watching, which makes the whole Mount Isa feel like a desert oasis.
