Compared with a year ago, the number of Australian residents who considered too much immigration was reduced.

Less than half (47 percent) of Australians believe the number of immigrants a year is too high, down 7 percent from last year, according to the latest (Lowy Institute) poll from the Roy Institute for International Policy, the Australian news agency reported.

However, this figure is still up by 10 percentage points as compared to 2014.

Nearly 2 to 3 Australian residents say immigrants have the ability and hard work to make Australia stronger. The proportion is down 7 percentage points from three years ago.

At the same time,40 per cent of the Australian population is of the view that migrants have taken away the work of other indigenous populations. This percentage increased by 5 percentage points in 2016.

About 70 per cent of the population is of the view that the Australian cities are too crowded, and that the proportion of the population that has a positive impact on the overall economic structure of Australia is slightly less.

In that case of a burden on the welfare system, there is a serious divide among the people of Australia. 48 per cent of the population is of the view that 50 per cent of the population is not so.

Australian young people are more friendly to immigrants. Of the 18-to-29-year-old, only 20 per cent believe that the number of migrants per year is too high. In contrast,53 per cent of the Australian population over 30 years of age considered the migration to be too much.

Nearly 60% of the people over the age of 45 think immigration is the burden of the welfare system. In the 18-to-45-year-old, the proportion was only 35%.
