A plan to turn the northern Seymour region of Melbourne into a "supercity" has been shelved by government, Victoria.
But a high-speed rail consortium has expressed interest. Australia`s first Sun revealed this month that Scott Keck, a senior real estate executive, suggested that Seymour`s "super city" was a way to cope with Melbourne`s rapid population growth.
Keck, chairman of Charter Keck Cramer, a real estate consultancy, said Seymour`s planned metropolis would help ease the pressure on Melbourne`s urban area and would be part of a high-speed rail link with Sydney.

But Victoria`s planning director, Richard Wynne, said the proposal was not in line with the state`s government plan to deal with population growth. "We think we have a plan to ensure that we respond to the increase in the population of Victoria," he said.
A key part of Melbourne`s plan is to build large job centres at Monash University and La Trobe university, Wynne said.
