The most recently asked question by Australian clients: visa holders are facing expiration and the visa approval for renewal has not yet come to fruition. What should we do to solve this problem? The following is an overview of Australian cross-bridge visas to be shared with you in need.

The Australian Bridge Visa (Bridging Visas) is a temporary visa that will allow you to wait for a new visa to take effect in Australia when your current visa expires and the subsequent visa has not yet been approved.

What are these bridge visas for in Australia? What's the difference?

Australian cross-bridge visas are granted mainly to applicants holding Australian substantive visas (student visas, work visas, tourist visas, etc.). There are many types of Australian cross-bridge visas, which are divided into five branches, A, B, C, D, E, according to the Australian Immigration Service`s setting of the bridge visa.

Australia Bridge Visa A

If an applicant currently holds a valid substantive visa (such as student visa, work visa, travel visa, etc.) in Australia, he or she will automatically obtain an Australian cross-bridge visa if another substantive visa is submitted.

The holder of the Australian Bridge Visa A can no longer enter the country after leaving Australia. When the BVA takes effect, generally, the terms of the visa are the same as those previously held by the applicant, so they are subject to the relevant provisions of the original visa.

02 Australian Bridge Visa B

Australian Cross Bridge Visa B allows holders to enter and exit Australia freely during the application for a substantive Australian visa. If the applicant returns to Australia during a specified period of travel (three days or a year), the BVB visa allows the holder to stay in Australia during the substantive visa processing period.

Applicants can hold both Australian substantive visa and BVB visa. Applicants must enter Australia before the expiration of BVB, otherwise they will not be able to enter Australia. Gachen recalls that applying for BVB needs to fill in a form 1006, submit it to the Immigration Service and pay a visa application fee, which can normally be approved for 1 to 2 weeks.

It is important to note that if you need to leave Australia again after the expiration of the existing BVB, you need to re-apply for the new BVB.

03 Australian Bridge Visa C

Australian cross-bridge visa C allows applicants to stay in Australia during substantive visa processing, mainly for those who have submitted substantive visa applications but do not currently hold substantive visas.

The holder of the Australian cross-bridge visa C may no longer enter the country after leaving Australia. Special attention should be paid to the fact that the BVC does not normally grant applicants the right to work and is not eligible to apply for BVB departure.

Since 19 November 2016, the BVC visa will expire after 35 days, including the results of the approved substantive visa application, the failure of the visa application and appeal, and the withdrawal of the visa application; The BVC visa expires after 28 days, including the judicial review body`s insistence to reject the applicant`s substantive visa application and the applicant`s withdrawal of the relevant judicial review application.

Australian Bridge Visa D

If the applicant`s substantive visa has expired, Australian cross-bridge visa D can allow the applicant to stay legally in Australia within a short period of time until the applicant can apply for another substantive visa, or arrange to leave Australia, or be granted an Australian cross-bridge visa E. You cannot work in Australia with an BVD visa or re-enter Australia after departure.

05 Australian Bridge Visa E

Australian cross-bridge visa E is a temporary visa, and if the applicant`s substantive visa has expired, is planning to leave the country voluntarily, or submit a new visa or appeal application, the BVE visa allows the holder to legally reside in Australia during this period.

The visa is also a one-time visa, the applicant can not work in Australia, once out of the country, the visa immediately lapsed.

Of the five branches of the Australian cross-bridge visa, only Australian cross-bridge visa B is required to pay an application fee of 140 Australian dollars to the Australian Immigration Service, and none of the other four types of visa has any fees.
