Thousands of people from within and outside Australia are waiting on both sides of MelbourneCBD Street to participate in the city`s annual Melbourne Cup parade event, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
Some parts of Melbourne have stalled as a result of the event, including, Might and Power,Rogan Josh,Paris Lane and Prince of Penzance, who have previously won the Melbourne Cup along the Swanston Street parade.
On the way from Bourke Street Shopping Street to Union Square, the crowd cheered and applauded at the famous trophies and award-winning riders and trainers.
"I`ve always dreamed of coming to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup, and now it`s really happening," said Irene Bryan, who traveled to Melbourne from far north to attend parade.
Among the crowd was a female spectator named Chen Lu (Lu Chen, who arrived from Shanghai, China, 8000 kilometers away to attend the Melbourne Spring Racing event.
The president of the Victoria Jockey Club, Amanda Elliott, said the Europeans were surprised by the enthusiasm for the Melbourne Cup.
"Edouard De Rothschild, the director of French horse racing, told me he couldn`t believe it was so popular. They have The Arc, there. Many people think it`s probably one of the most important events in the world. But he said,`We really want something like this.`"
Parade continues all the way to Union Square, but the weather is fair, the air is wet, and there is light rain.
