Immigration has remained at the centre of the Australian government`s political debate over the past year.
And what will happen to Australia`s immigration policy at the beginning of the new year?
1. Low-skilled immigrants with limited English skills are expected to gain permanent residency in Australia
Last year, the Federal Government of Australia signed two special agreements.
A designated regional immigration agreement with the Northern Territory and the Southern Coast of Victoria provides permanent residency rights for English-language semi-skilled migrants.
Against a backdrop of labor shortages, many Australian agricultural leaders have appealed to the government for a special short-term "farm visa".
Applicants do not need to pass labour market tests, do not require employer guarantees, and can be employed by different employers. In this way, the shortage of farm labor can be solved.
Immigration Secretary David Coleman said agreements could be signed with more regions this year to address labour demand in these areas.
According to Australian reports, the Australian government is planning to issue new, special visa categories to address the shortage of hundreds of thousands of farmers over the next decade. At the same time, encouraging more migrants to the remote rural areas can help alleviate the labor shortage in the region.
2. New parents visa
According to the SBS, the most worrying parent visa policy has seen significant new changes in the new year.

3.澳洲担保类家庭成员访问签证的新框架
在2016年，澳洲联邦议会通过了“2016年移民修正案（家庭暴力和其他措施）法案”和政府的修正案，
随后于2018年11月28 日当天由下院最终通过这一法案，为担保类家庭成员访问签证铺平了道路。
新政策创建了一个两步申请流程，涉及对担保者的评估，一旦获得批准，则只需要提交签证申请就可以了。
这种安排主要是为了保护弱势家庭成员，特别是儿童和已婚伴侣免受其担保者的伤害。
关于此次配偶签证的修订，最大的变化在于对担保人提出了更高的要求：
1.配偶移民的担保人必须是澳洲公民或永久居民。2.担保人需要在澳洲无任何的犯罪记录。在审理担保人资格的时候，无犯罪证明是必要的材料，否则无法通过担保人的审批资格。
3.担保人必须证明已被澳洲社会同化（Sponsor needs to assimilate），关于此项，担保人需要提供如下证据的证明：在澳洲拥有合法纳税收入，不能低于澳洲合法税收收入的门槛线36,000澳元/年
4.商务签证不需要投资证据
这个旨在在促进南澳大利亚经济的特殊签证于去年11月推出，但预计今年会有更多的申请人申请。
近期，南澳宣布了一项号称“最低门槛”新的商业签证。
与目前的商业投资签证不同，新签证不需要20万澳元的资金安排，
也就是说不需要任何大量的财务支出，没有专业要求，并且英语语言只要雅思4个5。
据报道，新的签证在第一年会暂时发放30个名额，但会在此后逐年递增。

5.削减移民入境率
