Melbourne CBD is about to introduce new road traffic regulations, mandatory speed limit of 30 km / h.

Melbourne CBD is about to introduce new road traffic regulations, mandatory speed limit of 30 km / h.

Melbourne's downtown road network, (Hoddle Grid), is about to implement new speed limits to reduce pedestrian and cyclists-related accidents, Radio 9 reported.

The new speed limit will replace the 40 km / h limit introduced seven years ago, covering the area enclosed by (Flinders Street), Springs Street, (Spring Street), Rajober Street (La Trobe Street) and Spencer Street (Spencer Street)

The city's local council, which assesses traffic conditions in the city center, is due to issue a report on the city's transportation strategy next month, and a new speed limit will be one of the key recommendations of the report.

In addition, Murben's transport strategy report also covers parking, sidewalk congestion and public transport co-ordination.

Parliament believes the new speed limit will focus on making roads safer by adjusting people's behaviour, rather than building expensive infrastructure such as deceleration belts.
