The state authorities are recruiting people to fight a terrible outbreak of carnivorous bacteria.

According to the Pioneer Sun, experts believe low-profile mosquitoes or an important factor in the spread of (Buruli Ulcer) are calling on public volunteers to set up mosquito traps in their homes. Scientists understand that possum is also a carrier of the carnivorous bacteria, but it is unclear why the outbreak is taking place in certain areas, not elsewhere.

Buruli ulcer hotspots include southeastern Melbourne, (Mornington Peninsula) on the Monington Peninsula and (Bairnsdale) in Bainsdale.

Last year, Bruri, Victoria, had 275 cases of ulcer infection, up from less than 50 in 2010. Among them, the Monington Peninsula suffered the most serious impact.

Experts have been working on the Monington Peninsula, collecting soil samples, possum faeces, placing mosquito traps, and conducting field investigations in residential areas.

Monington`s mayor, Jill (David Gill), is rallying residents to fight the rapidly spreading ulcer epidemic.

Field workers from the defeat (Beating Buruli) project will go to residents` homes to collect captured mosquitoes and send them to the lab for testing.
