Large waste gasification plants will be built in Melbourne West

The sun herald reported that a $150 million Recovered Energy Australia gasification power plant project was approved by Wyndham city government in march last year and was given a green light by the state environmental protection agency in january, but the project was opposed by Zero Waste Victoria environmental groups.

At the Virginia Civil and Administrative court (VCAT), the group challenged EPA`s decision, but recently withdrew its appeal.

"We give a more detailed account of the situation, basically clarifying what we`ve been trying to do, but by using the written form to reassure them ," said Ian Guss, director of the company. We have worked pragmatically together to reach a solution. "

Construction of the plant, which will begin at the end of the year, will allow about 200,000 tons of waste to be transferred from landfills and employ up to 40 people, he said.

The Chairman of the Zero Waste Victoria Environmental Protection Organization, Bishop Fox (Kirsty Bishop-Fox), said in a letter to its members that the organization had achieved a "great victory" in civil and administrative court and that gasification power plants would monitor gas emissions and pollutants more rigorously and provide public reports.
