A woman riding a bicycle died after she was hit by a car in Melbourne`s busy Chapel Street, but the driver selfishly chose to escape, leaving her at the scene to die.
At about 10:00 on Sunday, the 27-year-old Dutch citizen was knocked down by a stolen white Mercedes-Benz in South Yarra`s Chapel Street bike lane.
The woman was crucified in another car and was severely injured and was killed on the spot.
Bystanders helped the driver stop from the car. However, the man made an excuse to remove his belongings from the trunk and waited for an opportunity to escape the scene.
Victoria Superintendent McGregor (Stuart McGregor) is urging the "despicable" man to step forward.
"his first thought was running. He was not trying to save people, not to stop, but not to think of the poor man who was knocked down by him. " Inspector McGregor told reporters.
The car is also believed to have hit several parked cars and another moving vehicle.
The car was stolen last week in a serious burglary at Elsternwick.
