Sydney, Jan. 10 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-in recent days, including the United States, Greece, France, Italy, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Spain, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported, South Korean and Swiss embassies and consulates in Australia are suspected to have received suspicious parcels. Police arrested a 49-year-old male suspect in Victoria on the night of the 9th.

According to some embassy staff, they recently received a package containing suspicious substances. A New Zealand diplomat in Australia said his consulate had received a suspicious envelope. She said there was a small plastic bag inside the envelope, which appeared to be concrete and asbestos, with the words "asbestos" on the outside.

The Australian federal police sent several police officers and fire engines to the embassy and consulate to investigate the incident and test the package. Victorian police believe the incident is targeted and should have no impact on ordinary people. The state police will assist the federal police and fire department in investigating and handling the incident.

Victoria police and Australian federal police arrested a male suspect in Sheperton, northern Victoria on the evening of the 9th, accused of mailing dangerous goods. On the morning of the 10th, he will be remanded on remand after a hearing in Melbourne District Court. Police said the man sent 38 asbestos-containing packages to embassies and consulates in three cities. They said they had withdrawn 29 packages and planned forensic tests on them. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison. (intern Zhang Siyu)
