In addition to the Northern Territory, Southwest Victoria is about to become another area with the federal government to sign a five-year designated area Immigration Agreement (Designated Area Migration Agreement). The move will significantly ease local labor shortages, particularly in the food processing industry, agriculture and services.

According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the representative of the federal councillor of Wang Nong (Wannon) District, Tiehan (Dan Tehan), said that employers would need to provide migrant workers with a four-year period of work, training and community support services. If the migrant workers prove to be good community members and workers, they also have a chance to gain permanent residency in Australia, he said.

The deal was the result of lobbying by six local governments led by (Warrnambool City Council), the city council of Vanampur.

In the past two years, the Australian government has closed the permanent immigration route for hundreds of jobs in the immigration program, largely through adjustments to the temporary skills shortage visa (TSS) career list.

The move means that previously only workers who the government considered the most desirable and in line with the needs of most Australian companies would have access to permanent residency through their work visas.

The new Immigration Agreement for designated areas lowers requirements and opens the door to non-fluent, low-skilled, low-income immigrants.

Federal Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and multiculturalism, (David Coleman), said it was no longer recent for the (Great South Coast) region to suffer from labor shortages. Tiehan also said that the area had previously been facing Australia, but it is still difficult to fill the gaps.

He says the development of local businesses has been limited, and the development of the entire community has been curbed. "the Australian people don`t seem to want to take the job. Our population growth is not as strong as that of the rest of the world. We must ensure that our labour force continues to grow. "

It is understood that at this stage of the designated area Migration Agreement, only 300 jobs have been designated, most of which are in the dairy and meat processing industries, covering areas including Grael (Glenelg), Monn (Moyne), Vanampur. Corengamet (Corangamite), Colac-Otway and South Granping County (Southern Grampians).

Tiehan said the number of jobs in the deal would vary depending on demand and stressed that recruitment would always be an Australian priority at all times.

Wannenberg Mayor Herbert (Tony Herbert) said the upcoming "designated area Immigration Agreement" would attract large numbers of migrant workers to the region and boost local population growth.

South Grand Penn Mayor Mary-Anne Brown also said conditions in the south-west were good and that although forced immigration was not necessary, some strategies were needed to supplement the local workforce gap.
