According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Google officially opened a new office in Melbourne on Thursday to provide more than 100 desks for local engineers, salespeople and marketers, as well as reception space for Victoria`s partners.

McDonald (Sean McDonell), head of Google`s Australian (Google Australia) relationship with retail groups and utility providers, said that despite Google`s difficulties in finding a second suitable venue in the new state, But Sydney`s position as headquarters will not waver.

The move comes after Google rejected a move to the (Bays district) power station in Sydney`s Bay area, and plans to build a new site in the inner city of Carriageworks were blocked by the new state government. It was not until recently that Google began photographing the office building at (Central Station), CBD Central Railway Station, Sydney.

McDonald said the new Melbourne office is part of "our long-term commitment to Victorian businesses and partners" and will not be Google`s new Australian engineering hub.

"our plan is to continue to develop in Melbourne with our business partners," he said.

While the Melbourne office has more than 100 desks, only about 50 are non-vacant and are currently hiring more staff, McDonna said.

Merino (James Merlino), acting governor and education director of Victoria, attended the opening of Google`s state office. He said the state has become Australia`s number one technology destination, and Google`s entry into the state can be a huge boost to boost economic confidence and boost the technology industry, while also creating jobs.

Merino added that he hoped Google would "provide training opportunities for Melbourne tech graduates."
