Melbourne's Chinese man dropped his cat from the 45th floor and died in a quarrel with his girlfriend.

Hearing his girlfriend complain to her roommate that he was rude to her and her cat, a Chinese youth in Melbourne actually threw his girlfriend`s cat down more than 40 floors to death in an attempt to vent his anger. Not only did he lose his girlfriend as a result, But also faces the prison disaster.

Lu Chengdu (Chengdu Lu,) was charged with one count of animal abuse and one count of reckless injury.

In the evening of April 30, Lu dropped his girlfriend`s cat from the 45th floor of a high-rise apartment in Melbourne`s CBD, the Herald Sun reported earlier.

On the day of the incident, Lu Chengdu`s girlfriend, who had been dating for a year, complained to his roommate that he was sometimes "rude" to his girlfriend and her cat, prosecutors said. Angry and resentful, Lu Chengdu took advantage of his girlfriend`s absence, grabbed her cat and threw it out of the window. The cat fell over the balcony and onto the road.

The court heard earlier that witnesses said the cat`s sound of falling to the ground was like "firecrackers," and that seeing such things hurt the spirits of the witnesses.

In addition to the charges of animal abuse, police have prosecuted Lu Chengdu for reckless injury, arguing that his actions also pose a threat to the safety of innocent passers-by on busy streets outside. If convicted, the sentence of reckless injury is longer than cruelty to animals.

But Lu Chengdu`s defence lawyer challenged the charge of reckless injury, saying he simply wanted the cat to "get out of the room" and not deliberately throw it out of the balcony.

Under the state`s existing law, cruelty to animals faces up to two years in prison, or a fine of more than A $70, 000.

It is reported that after this matter, Lu Chengdu and girlfriend also finally parted ways.
